Article Title: Incomplete Inhibition of Thromboxane Biosynthesis by Acetylsalicylic Acid: Determinants and Effect on Cardiovascular Risk

Activity Purpose
To identify the mechanisms of thromboxane generation, including the elevated urinary 11-dehydro thromboxane B2 concentration as a valid determinant of cardiovascular risk, and to implement therapies that may reduce this risk

Statement of Need/Program Overview
This program intends to broaden the reach of atherothrombosis prevention and treatment protocols by providing a review of the current literature by today’s foremost experts.

Learning Objectives
On completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the mechanisms of thromboxane generation in the context of antiplatelet treatment with aspirin
  • Explain the association between elevated urinary 11-dehydro thromboxane B2 concentrations and cardiovascular risk
  • Identify modifiable determinants of 11-dehydro thromboxane B2 elevations and select therapies that may subsequently elicit reductions to improve the cardiovascular risk profile

Target Audience
This activity is targeted to physicians with an interest in atherothrombosis.
